Cameran Ashraf
Cameran first tried astrophotography at the age of 7 with an Instamatic after hearing his second grade teacher talk about astronomy. Seventeen years later, his interest was rekindled after viewing the sun under a white light filter he received bundled with a newly purchased Mak-Cass telescope.
Inspired by the sun's everchanging nature, he began to image it along with other celestial objects. His goal was to produce the best images possible on a student's budget. He devoted a year to upgrading his astrophotographic equipment while participating in online forums and studying astrophotography theory and techniques through numerous books bought or borrowed from the library. To support this habit, he has not bought new clothes for two years.
Cameran has had his images published on Spaceweather.com, and selected as picture of the day at Astronomy.com. He has published images in BBC Sky At Night magazine and had images selected for future publication in Sky and Telescope's Night Sky magazine.
Born in Indiana and raised in California, Cameran currently works in IT while pursuing a Masters in Geography. His other interests include exploring the outdoors and, of course, photographing it. He is also an avid reader.
