Mickey & Chris Moreau

About Mickey

As past president of the Spokane Astronomical Society, Mickey Moreau hosted ASTROCON ’99, the Astronomical League’s International Convention in Spokane, WA. He is also co-founder and president of Kid's Cosmos, a non-profit educational organization (www.kidscosmos.org) established in November of 1999 along with Jim Draggoo (Executive Director and NASA JPL Ambassador).
Kid’s Cosmos offers in-service training for teachers and night sky viewing opportunities for children of all ages. With the power of the internet “Cosmos” is also reaching out to offer information, answers, and reference study material, meeting the needs of students and teachers around the world. Our monthly outreach of 1.5 to 2 million hits per month, from 131 countries, with 60,000 unique visitors, and an average site visit time of 5 minutes helps us to make sure that everyone can be informed and excited about everything in the night sky and the fun of learning too.

For the past year Mickey and his wife Chris have spent their time forming a new company, Windows of Discovery, which is dedicated to publishing the new “Edu - Sci – Fi “novels in the “Professor’s Telescope” series. Within the year the company will be producing various media formats for our own works as well as offering new authors with similar educational / fiction related works an opportunity to have their creations published as well. www.theprofessorstelescope.com

About Chris

Chris Moreau has a Master's Degree in Education and for the past 16 years has taught music for the public school system in Spokane, WA. She serves on the advisory council for Kid’s Cosmos, and is a past member of the Spokane Astronomical Society. Her interest in space began as a child, watching endless re-runs of Star Trek and movies like The Day the Earth Stood Still. That interest blossomed into a full fledged love when she found that her high school library contained the collected works of truly great science fiction authors like Isaac Asimov, Frank Herbert, and Robert Heinlein.

After mysteriously being left alone for several hours with a 16 inch telescope at her disposal (who arranged that, I wonder?) at the Oregon Star Party sponsored by the Rose City Astronomers in 1997, Chris and her husband acquired their first telescope. Soon after, they acquired the habit of sprinting for the nearest patch of dark sky every Friday evening and dragging any of their friends along who cared to come.

Chris’s passion for sharing her love of astronomy with children took an interesting turn in 2004. Realizing an educational trend toward connecting good literature with state mandated curriculum, she decided to write a story for children that would combine science fiction adventure with sound science fact. The result was The Professor’s Telescope, a novel about two teenagers and their journey aboard an amazing telescope that will take you anywhere in the universe! The book is a ‘just right’ tale for children ages 9 to 99 who love to explore all the possibilities that space offers.

While Chris is a novice at novel writing, her experience teaching 650 students per week in grades K- 6 makes her an expert at entertaining children; she knows their likes and dislikes, their somewhat unusual sense of humor and what it takes to engage them in learning in today's media saturated world. Rather than wait for what might have been many months for a publisher to pick up the option on The Professor’s Telescope, the Moreau’s decided to publish the book themselves, and are now the proud co-owners of Windows of Discovery Publishing.

Chris is now working on the second book in the Professor’s Telescope series; Scavenger Hunt, which is due out sometime in late 2008. Sneak peeks will be available soon on the Professor’s website.
