Eric Adams
Eric Adams is a senior editor at Popular Science. He is responsible for the magazine's aviation, military, and space exploration coverage. An avid amateur astronomer, he has owned more than two-dozen telescopes over the last 15 years, has a particular fondness for big binoculars, and has even dabbled in astrophotography, with what could be the most dismal results ever achieved. He regularly attends star parties and even hosts one of his own, the annual Valentine Star Party that he and his wife hold at their residence in Scotch Plains, NJ, in February. He has done numerous outreach projects in the past, introducing students and colleagues to the night sky and participating in sidewalk astronomy projects in local communities.
As an editor, Eric regularly covers astronomy at both the amateur and professional level. He has visited the Very Large Telescope in Chile, produced features on space- and ground-based astronomy, and reported on the restoration of numerous vintage telescopes.
Prior to joining Popular Science in 2002, he was an associate editor at Air & Space/Smithsonian magazine. His freelance work has appeared in Sky & Telescope, Men's Fitness, Omni, Archaeology, The New York Times, The Baltimore Sun, and other publications. He is a contributing writer and editor to the book, Space Shuttle: The First 20 Years-The Astronauts' Experiences in Their Own Words, published in May 2002 by DK and the Smithsonian Institution. He lives in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, with his wife and two daughters.
