H.O.T.S. 2006 Announcement

6th Annual HOTS 2006 HANDS ON THE SUN The ONLY conference for the amateur Solar ObserverFriday, October 6th through Sunday, October 8th in Irvine, California. Irvine Valley College CORONADO, for the 6th consecutive year is sponsoring a two day workshop and symposium for amateur Solar Observers. This is the only event of its kind. This year’s program reflects the interests expressed in the survey taken following the 2005 HOTS conference. The conference will be held this year at Irvine Valley College 5500 Irvine Center Drive, Irvine California 92618The program will open Friday, October 6 with an optional tour of Mount Wilson. Formal opening will be at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 6. We will close conference activities at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 8.

Opening Speaker 6:30pm Friday, Oct 6th: Dr. David LevyThe New Age of Observing, Bringing the stars into you home.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Ralph Chou, Professor of Optometry at the University of Waterloo, Canada. Dr. Chou has spoken previously at HOTS and is back by popular demand. This years topic: “These old eyes – They ain’t what they used to be!” As the eyes and visual system age, various changes may affect the way we see the world. In this presentation, he will discuss how age related changes in the eye can affect visual observations with Coronado instruments.

TOPICS
ROBOTICS: as applied to remote tracking & mounts for both the professional and amateur.Speaker: John E. Hoot, president and founder of Software Systems Consulting, an engineering design firm specializing in computerized robotics, instrumentation and signal processing hardware and software.
TECHNICAL: Information about the filters & scopes from Coronado.
ECLIPSE MARCH 2006: Images and first hand accounts.
ASTRONOMY IN THE CLASSROOM: How one teacher inspires young astronomers.
HANDS ON IMAGING AND PROCESSING: A team of seven amateurs known for their different imaging techniques will lead sessions on gathering images and processing. This will be hands on followed by a show-and-tell Sunday. Bring your own lap top if possible and archived images in the event of inclement weather. When you register please list your imaging equipment and we’ll try match you up with a team leader familiar with your set up. If you’re not yet into the hobby, come and see the tremendous variety of equipment available.
Imaging session lead by: Tom Masterson, Hiram Villarreal, Gary Palmer, John Adair, Paul Hyndman, Greg Piepol, Mike Taormina and other seasoned amateurs will be on hand to offer observing tips.
NIGHTIME IMAGING & STAR PARTY: lead by Scott Roberts and John Hoot after fiesta at MeadeBREAKFAST AT MEADE & MEADE/CORONADO FACTORY TOUR: Tour Meade’s state of the art production facility and optical labs at our Irvine corporate headquarters.OPTIONAL - PUBLIC SOLAR OUTREACH: At Irvine Valley College Sunday afternoon

Registration: $175.00 per person includes all materials and the Saturday Night FIESTA! There is a $35.00 charge for additional guests at the fiesta.
