Greetings folks,
I picked up an old SN6 a few years back at a garage sale for a hundred bucks. I've been using it on and off and love the flat field it has and it's fairly compact and the fork mount is pretty solid.

A couple questions:

First off, the secondary holder isn't tight and keeps rotating relative to the corrector plate. Every couple times I use it the mere action of carrying it out to the yard is enough to skew the danged thing and then I have to teak it back into place. What is the correct method of tightening it a smidgen?

The fork mount RA drive tracks OK but I have no declination slow motion or any control other than the tightening knob. I was wondering what the lineage of this mount is and if there are parts available from some other related mount that shares a common design in the declination parts with it. It would be nice to install a slow motion system, or even a motor driven declination, heck, even an encoder and drive if such a thing is possible. (Heck, if there's a goto hack for this thing that would be the bee's knees)

I'm not crazy about the helical focusser, but it works OK I guess. One of these days I'll get around to picking up one of the nice low cost GSO dual speed units that are around now.

Anyhow, thanks for any Tips!

Jeez, are the old SN's the red headed stepchild of the Meade lineup, or what? nearly 60 views and no tips or suggestions at all, on Meade's own forum? Criminy!

Why not go over to the Cloudy Nights forums and ask in the "Classics" forum, and in the "Meade" forum. Certainly there's someone somewhere that can help you out.

Heck, that's where I started. Got a couple bites but nobody knowledgeable. I figured that at the factory sponsored site I'd get a bit more info.
