Solar viewing with the ETX-125

I just purchased  a solar filter for my ETX-125. My question is If a cover the opening  where the UHTC decal is located, will this cause damage to the elescope? The reason I want to cover this opening is to avoid light from entering the telescope from there.. it bothers my eye.
I have plug the screw openings. Is this a bad design? or just a way to delay dew formation..
