Got the 'scope a year ago but not used it for about 7 months. It was working fine before. Now when switched on I get 'press 0 to align....' but when I do so I no longer get the 'Automatic Align' instead I get 'Align' - Easy/one star/two stars. Where has Automatic Align gone? Tried resetting that handbox and putting info back in (date/time/location etc etc). No luck. I've probably missed something completely due to not using it for a while!

Help!
Thanks
Chris

You probably need to replace the battery on your LNT.  It's described in your manual.

The Automatic Align method needs the LNT module.  So either the LNT battery is out (like "wsuriano" suggested), or you did not attach the LNT module. It happened to me once I went observing and forgot the LNT at home. That's when I realize it was needed for auto-align. The option miraculously came back as soon as I plugged the LNT back in.

I looked the manual and could find no reference to replacing the LNT battery .  What section is this info located ?

Steve:

Look at Appendix D in the following:

http://www.meade.com/manuals/TelescopeManuals/LXseries/LX90-LNT.pdf

In the GPS version, Appendix D seems to have been replaced with a Basic Astronomy Appendix.  I recall, however, getting the LNT stuff on a separate sheet.  Anyway, be careful taking the LNT cover off.  There are two spings in there that fly in every which way once released.  And, it takes some doing getting everything back together.  Just be patient and realign it with the optical tube once you put it all back in place.

Steve:

This just happened (out of the blue) to me...... after much digging through the AUTOSTAR menu (can't recall if it's "Utilities" or "Setup"... think it's the latter..... scope is 130km from here...) I found that it had defaulted to the "GPS: When Needed" option vice the "GPS: At Startup" option...... selected the latter again, and... voila!

Hope this helps...

Steve. The RDF/LNT on an LX90 does not have a battery. It draws power from the 12v supply that powers the scope.  Wink

Chris.

AHA! Just been informed by a friend that the older RDF/LNT's do have a battery in them. Apologies. I didn't realise that.   Lips sealed

The same thing happened to me, and the prolem turned out to be the LNT cable plugged into the aux port of the LX90. The little plastic retaining clip had broken off and the plug was not making proper contact. Check your connection it could be as simple as that. I really don't think you will have to send it back to Meade it's either the plug or the LNT battery.

I just got my LX-90 8" and there is a battery on the RDF.  It's  underneath the module.  You have to take the module off and turn it upside down.  A rubber cap is there -- lift it off and there's the battery!!! Grin
