I am so frustrated by the mixed messages I've read regarding this subject.
Can I ask if the LX90 LNT 12"  does have a polar home position, or not. I read on some occasions, that the handles should be down, then up on another . So which is it?
As the picture on Jan's  website shows the wedge mounted scope in Polar Home position, with the handles on the top, But if I place my scope in that position, then should it attempt to slew to the zenith for any reason, it would find itself up against the limit, and in danger of doing some damage.
I also find that the Manual Meade supply for the scope, doesn't stress how important the LNT is to the proper function of the telescope. This Single item should have been a highlighted subject in the manual, with a list of the consequences, should it lose it's battery power.
This is not a rant, and I'm not Anti Meade. Just frustrated.    Huh

Assuming your scope is mounted on the wedge with the scope pointing north towards Polaris, Declination reads 90 and all your settings in Autostar are set for "Polar Mode". Before turning on the Autostar rotate your scope along its right ascension counter-clock-wise "slowly" until you hit the hard stop. Then turn your scope clock-wise along its right ascension until the handles and finder scope are pointing down and then Level the fork arms. Turn on the Autostar and select the type of alignment you want to use "one star, two star, ect.". The Autostar then asks you to put the scope in the "Polar Home Position" witch it is in already press "Enter" and the scope should slew to Polaris turning counter-clock-wise and positioning the finder scope so you can "manually" using only the adjustments on the wedge to center Polaris. Press "Enter" and the scope will slew towards the alignment stars. You’re done unless you wish to perform more precise drift alignments. I always first find the "Hard Stop" and then turn the scope to its home position no matter what alignment mode I'm using. The only time I read that the fork handles were pointing up in the polar home position was when the scope was being used in the Sothern hemisphere. Hope this helps.

Brilliant. That is the clearest explanation I have had.
I am much obliged to you.
I think you must have meant rotate the scope Counter  Clockwise in Dec. though, as there is no hard stop in RA
Thank you very much.

Another setting in the Autostar to check is the “cord wrap” setting. When in polar mode there is no reason for the cord wrap setting to be on so turn it off.

Thanks , I didn't know about that either. Grin
