Hi all -

I am considering purchasing an observatory.  I have in mind a Skyshed Pod, but because I live in a planned community, I am also looking at roll off roof observatories as well.

Can anyone advise me on what the minimum footprint for a shed should be in order to house a SN10 with dew shield?  I plan to be in the observatory with the scope, even though I do most of my viewing these days with imaging and a laptop.

Thanks!

Hi Mike,

I built a roll off roof for my obs. It is on an 8' x 8' cement slab 6" thick with a wall height of 5'. It is very easy to put together out of 2x4's which bolt to j-bolts embedded in the slab. I built the wall frames in the garage then put them in place later. The outside is T1-11 siding. I also insulated the walls and put paneling on the inside.

The roof sits on four rollers in a wood track and can easily be moved with one hand.

Thanks Brent -

I looked at your setup - that's exactly what I had in mind.  I also like the way you insulated the walls.  It can get pretty hot down here in Ramona during the summer.  I shouldn't have any problem getting this past my homeowners association.

Mike,

If you would like any details of the construction or detail photos send me a private e-mail.
