When I try to auto align, the telescope will not turn more than about 350 degrees. I've loosened the horizontal lock and manually moved the scope clockwise and counter clockwise and I can only get about 350 degrees of movement before it comes to a stop. This means I can neither auto align or follow objects

Can some one help me out with this problem?

Are you starting in the HOME POSITION?

Unlock, turn counterclockwise until it stops, lock it down.

Hi Bill, thanks for replying. Yes I've put the scope in the Home position. Even if it seems to have aligned properly (which it did just now), when I ask it to take the 'tour' it will eventually get to a position where it can't go any further - although it tries to!

I had a similar problem and found that I had not gotten it to the home positiion correctly. Set the tripond so that the "tilt" mechanism is opposite north... i.e. if you were to tilt the tripod it would slope up from the back or south side. Make sure the top is level. Then loosen the clutch and rotate the unit counter clockwise until it stops. Then turn it closkwise until the scope points north and the fork is over the left had side of the scope where the on/off switch is located.

Once done carefully it did the tour deal just fine.

good luck

Thanks Tony, the scope has now been serviced and is working fine. The mechanism was stuck.

Glad its working... I love my ETX125... optics are truly the best... I have other equipment for imaging, but for viewing pleasure the ETX is a wonderful package.

cheers
