HI-Don here again.I'm looking for input on the alignment of the LX90.after my recent bout with the etxls,i was lucky to return it and get an LX90.i set it up last night.north-level on target, entered for alignment but really didn't see any great stars.i would appreciate input from other LX90 owners.i'm wondering if these GPS units are working properly.sony is a good product as far as i know but after my experiance with the ETX LS i'm beginning to wonder.any thoughts or remedies would be highly appreciated. THANKS  Don

Don,
I am not sure from your post exactly what problems you are having.  Are you in Alt/Az mode, or on a polar wedge?  Which alignment protocol are you using, the Auto 2-star alignment?

I found that for both my LX200R and My LX90, my best routine was first to make sure the scope was pointed in the "home" position and that the base is roughly level (don't go nuts about leveling, it doesn't have to be perfect!).  On a tripod, I would then find Polaris in the sky visually, then run the "Calibrate Sensors" routine.  The scope will slew through what looks like an Auto alignment, but then points at Polaris and asks you to center polaris in the eyepiece.  Once you do that, the Calibrate Sensors routine is done.  Then immediately do your Automatic Alignment, I think you will find that your goto will be VERY good at this point.  If you want even better pointing accuracy then run the Smart Mount, and do at least 10 stars.

Give it a try, I think you will be pleased with the result.  I live near a large iron ore deposit, and it throws off the magnetic compas in the base so I have to calibrate sensors every time I set up on a tripod.

Cheers!!                  Toxo

TOXO- thank you for writing back.i had to send the controller back and am waiting to get another one(connection problems)  .my problem here is that  lighting behind my home make it extremely difficult to see polaris.when i get the new one(controller)i plan to go through the calibrating in the book and make my attempt again to line the scope up. i will rewrite to you when i do.
