I'm not sure how many of you get the kids involved with astronomy, but I bought the kids a goto scope, Meade DS2114 and my 3rd grader did a science demonstration on Orion and got a first place ribbon.....

here are some photos.....

What she really liked about Orion was the Mythological story about him , that he was easy to show people in the sky, and that she had seen the nebulas through the telescope. Good times.

That is wonderful.  We need more of that!

I have given talks to cub scouts a couple of times.

The most enjoyable time was getting out my 14.25 inch f/6.7 reflector in its new red tube.

I was doing some fine tuning after a rebuild and simply had it out in the driveway.

Before long, I had four neighborhood boys in about the third grade asking to look through it.

We had a time that evening.

Keep up the good work!

Awesome.  Kids need more reality, and less video idiocy (TV, PC, and vid games).  It's tough to compete with those.  Looks like you have a winner.

Congrats!

I've done sunspot viewing with kids from a local primary school and I had some members of the local astronomical society join me in showing them the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn one evening. I've also done some outreach activities at my work.

One thing that might be good for an audience is connecting a webcam to a laptop, rather than making them queue up to look through an eyepiece. You can always stack the results later.
