LXD75 - Envisage- DSI-C autoguiding vs port 5401 issues

I'm going to try it again tonight on my win XP machine. I've read some more write ups I found on google which all led me back to meade4m, oddly enough.

so far, this is what I've gleaned

do NOT run Autostar suite, it takes the port and won't let go
run netserver by itself first
make sure all addresses are the 127.whatever flavor

I plan to plug everything together, run netserver on it's own, then go straight envisage and see what happens when I push 'connect'.

still not quite clear on why I'm supposed to run a network server to connect to a serial port via a USB dongle, but if I get beyond the 'port seen but wrong data type' message I'll already be doing better than the last time I did this.

any more tips?

Got it. I can't believe this was it. After a year of sporadic infuriation with this connection. It is not serial/USB adaptor type biting me.  It is not the proper use or setup of Autostar suite. It is not running netscope server in any way. You don't need either one. You simply run Envisage.

In Envisage, you click the telescope tab and enter your  comm port  where it says NAME at startup. Then click 'connect'.

That's it, that's all, connected in two seconds showing version for the 497 and "Can Autoguide". Here I was, already half defeated as I plugged everything together expecting the same high blood pressure this issue has resulted in every time I've taken another swing.

I've made my entire night in the first minute. Cool!
