I recently obtained a ETX-90-EC and after reading the instructions and aligning, I found that the RA axis drive isn't working. So I called Meade support, and they informed me that they no longer repair those telescopes. I am left to find someone else to repair it or try and fix it on my own. My questions are first any recommendations? Second, How do you separate the forks assembly from the computer control section? I don't want to further damage the instrument. After some on line research, I am guessing a stripped gear as the problem.

Thanks.

New here, and I saw this thread. I am having the exact same issue with my ETX-90EC and with mine, the RA drive motor will track after about an hour delay. It moves under slew speed, however.

I was able to remove the bottom plate and discovered a few gears in the RA drive gearbox were binding up causing the horizontal slew and tracking to be delayed.

I have also been informed that the RA drive gear and worm gear drive in the ETX-90EC are the same as the one in the Meade ETX-80 and ETX-70.

What I have done, is contacted the guy at this website: http://telescope-warehouse.com/

I have ordered a Meade ETX-70 fork base and will be using the RA drive motor and worm gear from it in my ETX-90.
